There are many benefits to hiring a birth photographer. One of the most important reasons is that it frees up your partner and support team from having to worry about a camera, so that they are able to fully participate and support you during your labor. It also means that they will be captured on film as well. Some of the most touching and beautiful images are of the love seen through the people around you and there are many moments you may miss while in labor that are beautiful to see afterward.
I have invested in professional equipment and specialize in working in dim lit and small spaces where births tend to take place. Hiring a birth photographer also ensures that you will have high quality images to re-tell the story of your child's birth and cherish forever.
"I have had the pleasure of receiving images from Becca all through out my pregnancy as well as birth and after. I could not recommend her more!! She is gentle and respectful with an amazing eye for each moment. With each trimester she had great ideas that always turn out even more gorgeous then I could imagine. Her presence is very calming, and after labor, our Midwife said, "I hardly even knew she was here." We received our birth photos and sobbed with overwhelming love and joy as we looked through the images. Each one captured the moment so well." - Raven S.
What to Expect
PRESENCE I am naturally quiet and offer a gentle energy and presence during your birth. I try my best to blend into the background as much as possible while documenting this special event. I have experienced birth firsthand with my own children, as well as dozens of other births I have attended, and understand how important and personal the birthing space I will be entering into is. I use only what lighting is available, never flash photography, in order to be as unobtrusive of the birthing process as possible.
IMAGES In a photojournalistic style, I focus on capturing the mood and emotions in the room, the power resonating from you as a birthing woman, the bond between you and your partner and support team. I am here to help tell your story, to bring images which emphasize more than words can. Images can be as modest as you would like them to be. I always try to frame them in a tasteful and shareable way. Some moms like most images to take place near their heads, while others want images of baby crowning. If you aren’t sure, I am happy to put more graphic mages in a designated folder so you can decide if and when you want to see those images.
PRIVACY I always use discretion while capturing and editing images. Your privacy is of utmost concern and I will take care to see it protected as I am able. I never publish any images that have not been approved with expressed permission. I believe that every woman should be able to make her own choices in childbirth, and this extends to how the images of her labor and birth are used. My contract gives me legal freedom to use your photos on my website and social media pages, as this is how I am able to gain more clients and help share the beauty of birth with others, however, I will respect any specific requests made by the family for not wanting certain images shared online. I am happy to discuss this more if you have any questions or concerns.
"Becca was our birth photographer, and I am so thankful for the service she provided. The images she captured are so powerful! I can't wait to show these pictures to my kids and tell them that THIS is how much you're loved. Becca came as soon as labor was confirmed (even before the midwives), and stayed with us for hours, late into the night. She was so quiet and unobtrusive, it was easy to relax and concentrate through labor even with somebody "extra" there. She is kind and gentle, and an excellent photographer. I would definitelyrecommend her! Thank you Becca!!" - Cori S.
BASIC BIRTH SESSION This option is for those who would like the full story of their labor and birth documented in a tasteful way. Coverage starts roughly around active labor and lasts up until 2 hours post birth. These images are captured with a photo-journalistic approach, as I quietly and unobtrusively document this special event artfully. Click for more details + pricing here.
FRESH 48 SESSION This session is an alternative option for families who want to have those very early moments of their child remembered with beautiful, professional quality images, but may not be comfortable with having a photographer present during their entire labor and birth.
This session takes place within the first 48 hours (daylight hours) after your child’s birth, in your home or at the hospital or birth center where you gave birth. Shot in a similar style to the full birth session, it is laid-back, unposed, and natural. My aim is to document the emotions and early moments of bonding between you and your newborn. This is also a great time to have siblings and other family members meet and hold baby for the first time, or simply document real life moments with your new little one at home. This session is priced slightly higher than my normal newborn sessions, due to the longer session time and the need for me to be available with such short notice. Click for more details + pricing.
