I am so thrilled I was able to be a part of this family's birth journey. I met Kim and Chris back in spring, after connecting with them about photographing their twin birth this summer. I immediately fell in love with them and have been looking forward to joining them in the delivery room ever since.
Tuesday, July 26th, they gave me the heads up that Kim would be induced the following morning at 38 weeks. The next day, they ended up going in earlier than expected, around 5AM, to begin the induction. Unsure of how long it would take, I headed out later in the morning, arriving around 11:30AM. I found them in a bright, sunny delivery room playing Farkle with some family members. Smiles, laughter, jokes and pleasant chatter ensued as we all waited for contractions to continue to pick up.
It didn't take long, and soon Kim was breathing (and laughing!) through more intense contractions and after a few more hours, an epidural was requested and she finally got a break and could rest.
Everything was going smoothly and it was simply a matter of waiting. I left the room for a while to let the family rest, and rejoined them around 10PM. Tranquil music played in the background and oils were diffusing as everyone continued to rest. A little after 11PM, the doctor spoke the words, "time for delivery!" and the energy instantly changed into excitement, anticipation, and uncertainty. Dad got suited up in scrubs and they wheeled mom into the OR around 11:20PM. I was cleared to join, and after donning my own pair of scrubs, went to wait with Dad in the hallway. We were allowed in a little before midnight, and after a few pushes baby A was born and announced as a BOY. Baby B came out feet first minutes later - a girl! Little sister was born just after midnight, giving the siblings separate birthdays.
So beautiful to see the emotion and joy on these new parents' faces! I followed dad back to to the delivery room where mom met us later. Babies were weighed, wrapped, and placed in their parents' loving arms and I said my goodbyes and walked out of the room leaving a happy, relieved, and exhausted family to bond.
I am so very happy for you all - what an amazing story to witness, thank you for having me there!
